Apple cuts prices of Mac Desktops by ~15%, looks like India if finally on Apple's radar

Price cut after price cut, launch after launch, looks like Apple has finally started considering India as a potential market(phew).

Apple has dropped the prices of their Mac desktops by ~15%. This is great news for Apple fans.

Apple has recently launched the iPad 2 in India, merely 3 months after its US launch. Going by what Apple has done in the past in India, 3 months is nothing. We waited for the next generation of any device to be launched in US so that the last generation would be dumped in India. Well not any more it seems. India is on Apple's radar now.

In the last post, I told you that Apple is going to launch the iPhone 4 by this month end. There is even better news, rumors have it that the device will be 'factory unlocked'. This means that your iPhone 4 would work with any SIM card and would not just be locked to use only Airtel and Vodafone.

Here's a look at the new and old prices of the Mac desktops.

MODEL OLD PRICE NEW PRICE

Mac Mini 44,900 37,900

iMac 21.5" 74,900 64,900

One thing that catches our eye is that all the devices in this Iconia series look stunning. Just have a look at the pics we have added below.

Twitter buys TweetDeck for $50 Million

TweetDeck is one of the most popular twitter clients. Almost one-third of twitter users use TweetDeck to tweet. Twitter must have thought that its not a good idea to let TweetDeck enjoy so much autonomy, hence this buy-out was inevitable.

TweetDeck was initially in talks with UberSoft. UberSoft is a company that has been on a buying spree of late. The company has been buying many twitter clients in the recent past.

The exclusivity deal with UberSoft ended this April and hence, TweetDeck could respond to the offer made by Twitter. UberSoft was ready to pay around $30 Million for TweetDeck whereas Twitter is paying nearly $50 Million.

There were speculations that UberSoft may start a rival micro blogging site to compete with Twitter and with all these popular third party Twitter clients with it, Twitter must have taken this a big threat.

Hence Twitter was ready to pay nearly $20 Million extra.

BlackBerry PlayBook and Motorola Xoom to be availale in India very soon.

After the launch of the iPad 2 in India, other manufacturers are gearing up to launch their tablets in India pretty soon.

Apple caught everyone off guard by launching the iPad 2 within 3 months of its US launch.

The BlackBerry Playbook which received a pretty ordinary response from reviewers is already available for pre-order on HomeShop18.

The Motorola Xoom, which is a honeycomb tablet and has received outstanding reviews from people all over the world is also available for pre-order on HomeShop18.

These two tablets will definitely eat into Apple's share of the tablet market in India. The iPad 2 went out of stock in India in just 1 day of its launch, we don't expect anything like that to happen with any of these two tablets, but still the Xoom will catch a lot of eye balls.

In terms of pricing too, the iPad seems to have an upper hand over the PlayBook. The 16GB model is priced at Rs. 32,999, 32GB is priced at Rs. 39,299 and the 64GB model is priced Rs. 45,999.

The 32 GB model of Xoom would cost you Rs 38,500. These prices are obviously more than what you would pay when the devices are actually launched and available off the shelves in India.

An official statement from both BlackBerry and Motorola is expected in the coming days.

What's wrong with Sony? Attack after attack, Customer Details being Compromised.

Barely a few weeks ago, gamers were trying to find out as to why The Sony PlayStation Network was down for so long. Little did they know that Sony had intentionally shut down The PlayStation Network because there had been an attack on the network by hackers.

The PlayStation Network had been down from April 20 and Sony made a public statement about the incident on April 28. The 8 day gap makes one believe that the attack was pretty severe.

Following the security breach by hackers, it came to be known that around 77 Million users personal details including name, addresses, birth dates and the most crucial, credit card information had also been stolen.

A few days later, some security researchers made claims that a list of 2.2 Million PlayStation Network users credit card details were up for sale. Claims were made that the hackers even tried to sell the stolen data back to Sony but Sony refused.

As expected, Sony has rubbished these claims as being false.

If all this wasn't enough, Sony was hit by another attack in which it is believed that details of 25 Million more Sony customers has been compromised.
Interestingly, this breach happened a day before the PlayStation Network breach, but came to light only after a review took place because of that breach.

This breach happened on the Sony Online Entertainment PC games Network. Apart from 25 Million existing customers, records of around 10,000 customers were stolen from an outdated database. It is believed that in this attack, debit card details of customers in Austria and Germany had been stolen.

Sony is having to face flak from all corners owing to all these breaches. The SOE(Sony Online Entertainment) Network has also been shut down for the time being.
